Text Box: Text Box: Great night at the 2005 Installation
Text Box: The annual September Installation of the Master Elect in Baden Powell Lodge was again a great success. Wor. Bro. Craig Shankland was installed into the chair of Kind Solomon. It was an extremely eventful and fast paced night. Text Box: boards for high rise buildings. Craig has grown in the company to take on the many responsibilities his job demands today in JDN Monocrane.
Scouting Joined the fantastic group of 8th Nunawading South at the age of 8, he keenly worked through the badges and moved into Scouts to again work through the badge scheme to achieve the Adventurer Badge and Green Cord.
Craig continued to move up through the ranks onto Venturers in the Koonung Venturer Unit, this unit was very active, taking part in many outings, such as cruising Gippsland Lakes, ball room dance lessons, Christmas tree sales and caving in Buchan. The most memorable being the hike in the Howitt high country, during the weekend getting separated from the group and spending a night alone on the open High Plans. Craig asserts that he was not lost and knew where he was with the story getting into the newspapers. When schooling got too heavy with HSC he stopped attending Venturers.
After finishing his HSC exams Craig was introduced to Rovers in the Bungaree Rover Crew becoming involved, taking part in all the usual Rover Crew activities and filling all the crew committee positions.
After a couple of years Craig also began to get involved with Rover interest groups and committees outside his own Crew, serving time on CESAR (the Area Rover Council), the Ranger Rover Council and the Bogong Rover Chalet Management. Craig attended the 89-90, 92-93 & 95-96 Australian Rover Moots, the 94 New Zealand Rover Moot and the 10th World Moot in Sweden in 1996. In 1994 Craig was presented with the Baden Powell Award but also got booted from Rovers the same year.
Craig became a Cub leader at 1st Wantirna South in 1991, then moved to Scouts and took a troop to the Brisbane Jamboree in 1998, which was not long after joining the Craft and being passed to the 2nd Degree. He attended the Baden Powell Lodge Queensland Jamboree meeting.
In 1999 Craig un-volunteered as Scout Leader. However he visited the following two Jamborees in Sydney and Adelaide and attended the Jamboree meetings of Baden Powell Lodge NSW and Baden Powell Lodge SA respectively.

Text Box: So much so that the Toast to the WM missed out on all the juicy background of our newly Installed Master!
See below the information obtained, although omitted from the Toast:
Text Box: Craig Robert Shankland was born at St. Andrews Hospital, East Melbourne in the fantastic year of 1968.
Education Craig attended school at Killoura Primary School then onto the big world of Syndal High School, completing his HSC in 1986. He gave engineering a try at Swinburne but finding the task too challenging decided to go out into the work force to make money for a year then return to studies.
Employment His first job was delivering news papers, the Nunawading Gazette, inheriting the round from Bro. Gerry Voogd’s sons. While at Swinburne, Craig also worked in the kitchen at Hungry Jacks Forest Hill store, then being selected to train the crew for a new store in the Manchester Unity Building in the City.
His first big job, to fill in the year between studies, was at the State Bank Burwood East branch, then transferring to the Wattle Park branch. Craig worked with the bank for 14 months and, as he was enjoying the working life much more than study, chose to find work as a trainee draftsman. He found an ideal job at A-Line Switchboards in 1989, a company manufacturing main electrical distribution
